Although there has been some push back from residents interested in how rooftop solar systems might disrupt the historic aesthetic of the city, Santa Barbara is attempted to address that through incorporating a series of Solar Design Guidelines into its fast-tracked solar approval process and has stated a commitment to increasing the prevalence of solar in Santa Barbara.

Residents of Santa Barbara qualify for the $2000 federal solar tax credit, as well as a rebate through the California Solar Initiative, administered by Southern California Edison.
