San Francisco Solar
The climate might not seem ideal for solar (although actually, solar systems perform fine in the ambient light found in foggy conditions), the progressive city of San Francisco offers one of the nation’s most aggressive municipal solar rebate programs — GoSolarSF’s Solar Energy Incentive Program. With an annual budget of $3 million per year, San Francisco’s new program (launched in July 2008) offers $3000-6000 rebates for residential customers and $10,000 rebates for businesses. Rebates can be even higher for low-income residents of an “Environmental Justice District” and for non-profit, multi-family residences. Coupled with the California Solar Initiative and federal tax credits, the San Francisco solar incentive can pay half or more the cost of a solar powered system.
